A conviction may be subject to challenge in a post-conviction proceeding. The rules for filing post-conviction cases vary according to jurisdiction. In federal court, a post-conviction case is filed after the direct appeal has concluded but before the expiration of a one year statute of limitations. In the District Columbia Court of Appeals, however, certain proceedings must be filed before the appeal is final. There are also rules for what claims may or may not be raised. Ms. Englert has successfully represented clients in post-conviction proceedings in state and federal court.
